Holidays in the countryside – Central Dalmatia

Rural destination Central Dalmatia include the area from Primosten to Makarska Riviera. It is a rugged area with a pleasant Mediterranean climate. Life takes place around the city of Split and Cetina, the only river in the whole area. Characteristics of central Dalmatia are strong tourist development of the coastal area, the islands and the Dalmatian hinterland in the mainland.

The capital of Central Dalmatia is medieval Split, known for one of the world's most beautiful buildings - the Diocletian's palace, protected by UNESCO. Trogir should also be noted, whose well-preserved town is also under the auspices of UNESCO. Makarska Riviera is known for its beautiful beaches. Makarska hangs above the mountain slope, also a nature park.

The islands are larger and more distant with each other than in North Dalmatia, which results with more intense gusts of wind. The most famous islands are Brac, Hvar and Vis. Brac and Hvar are popular tourist destinations, and Vis with beautiful beaches and nature is increasingly turning to tourism. Island near Vis, Biševo, it well known for its unique natural phenomenon - the Blue Cave.

Dalmatian hinterland is a typical rocky ground with low vegetation, fertile fields and natural phenomena such as the Red and Blue Lake. Characteristical climate, agricultural ecoproduce, sub-Mediterranean climate, flora and fauna, authentic local cuisine, traditional architecture, handicrafts, sports, and old habits are the reasons which justify the nickname of the Dalmatian hinterland - Croatian Provence.
