Blue, white and green are colors that mark Istria - the largest Croatian peninsula, situated on the northern Adriatic Sea, close to Slovenia and Italy. The blueness of the sea contrasts the green and white stone inside the charming town situated on the hills. The landscape of Istria was reminiscent of the most beautiful parts of Tuscany or Provence.
Istria is an attractive region with quality agrotourism offer and untouched nature in its inner part. Gentle hills covered with olive groves and vineyards, on which proudly rise picturesque medieval villages, represent the inspiration for many artists. Every city tells its own story. Be sure to visit Buzet - also known as the "city of truffles," Grožnjan - art haven, Motovun - a town with a legend, and more recently the internationally renowned film festival, Hum - the smallest city in the world.
The coastal area 445 km long, located just 30 minutes drive from the interior of Istria, is abundant in tourist centers with rich tourist venue for those seeking sea, sun and beach vacation. The most famous coastal tourist spots are Umag, Porec, Rovinj, Rovinj, Pula, Medulin and Rabac.
Istria's eventful history is evidenced by the many buildings, such as, the Roman monuments of the Arena (Roman amphitheater), Dijanas and Augustus Temple, the Twin Gate and the Golden Gate in Pula, Euphrasian Byzantine Basilica in Porec, the medieval town of Rovinj with imposing baroque church of Sv. Euphemia.
In addition to its natural and cultural sights, Istria offers its visitors a varied, extremely delicious local cuisine. Besides being known for its ham and truffles, it has been recognized by the indigenous varieties of grapes - Malvasia and Teran, from which arise the famous wines. Recently, Istria is conquering Europe with top quality olive oils.
Istria is relatively well connected with the rest of Croatia and Europe. Although there are bus and rail connections, as well as ferries and air flights to Istria, the most practical way to reach Istria is still by car. Local buses are frequent and reliable. The only problem may represent a bus stop located at times outside the residence.
